Bregje van Wesenbeeck has a diverse work experience spanning different organizations and roles. In their current position as the Scientific Director at Deltares since November 2021, they are responsible for leading scientific activities. Prior to this, they worked at Deltares, Marine and Coastal Systems, starting in 2007, where they focused on expertise in Nature-based Solutions for Disaster Risk Reduction (DDR) and Climate Change Adaptation (CCA). Bregje was also an Associate Professor at Delft University of Technology, Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences from November 2020. Bregje obtained their PhD from Rijksuniversiteit Groningen and NIOO-KNAW in 2007. Additionally, they gained research experience at Brown University as part of their PhD, conducting field studies in the lab of Professor M.D. In 2001, they worked as a Project Assistant for Water and Nature Policies at Provincie Noord-Holland.
Bregje van Wesenbeeck's education history begins in 1989 when they enrolled at the Stedelijk Gymnasium Leiden, where they completed their secondary education. After that, from 1995 to 2001, they attended the University of Amsterdam, earning their MSc degree in Biodiversity and Evolution. Following this, Bregje pursued further studies at the University of Groningen from 2002 to 2007, where they obtained their PhD in Ecology.
