Heather Piwowar

Heather Piwowar is an accomplished professional with extensive experience in both nonprofit and technical sectors. Currently serving as a Tour Leader with Adventure Cycling Association since March 2024 and engaging as a part-time volunteer for Democrats Abroad in phonebanking and IT, Piwowar also volunteers as a Resident Bicycling guide at Broadway Lodge. Previously, Piwowar co-founded OurResearch, the nonprofit behind Unpaywall and OpenAlex, and has held significant roles including Senior Systems Developer and Director of Clinical Informatics at Precision Therapeutics, where contributions included the design of clinical trials analysis and bioinformatics algorithms. Piwowar's academic background includes a BS and MEng in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, followed by a PhD in Biomedical Informatics from the University of Pittsburgh.
