Cheryl Reese

HR Director at Department of Energy

Cheryl Reese has extensive experience in human resources, with a focus on leadership roles. Cheryl started their career in 1990 at the Bureau of Reclamation as a Personnel Management Specialist, where they provided coaching and training to team members and advised supervisors on classification and staffing. Cheryl then moved to the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) in 2000, where they led a nationwide team and performed classification and organizational design services. Their role also involved creating and delivering presentations and negotiating agreements. In 2001, Cheryl joined the Western Area Power Administration as a Lead Human Resources Specialist, where they held various positions including HR Automation Group Leader and Staffing/Automation Policy & Program Manager. During their time at the General Services Administration as an HR Officer, starting in 2011, Cheryl established and directed the "Commissions and Boards" HR Service Center, overseeing a team and providing HR services to executive and legislative entities. Cheryl also executed a Congressional/OPM accountability project for executive resources. In their most recent role as HR Director at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Cheryl leads the "Power Marketing Administration" Shared Service Center and provides comprehensive HR programs to employees working in power marketing and transmission.

Cheryl Reese holds a Master's Degree in Public Administration from the University of Wyoming, which they completed from 1987 to 1989. Before that, they obtained a Bachelor's Degree in International Studies from the same university from 1985 to 1987. Cheryl also has an Associate's Degree in Communication from Casper College, which they earned from 1983 to 1985. In addition to their academic achievements, Cheryl has obtained certifications in Strategic HR Business Partner from the Human Capital Institute in 2017 and in SPHR from the HR Certification Institute in 2013.
