Robert Dufresne has a diverse work experience starting from their role as a Law Clerk at the Quebec Court of Appeal in 1998. Robert then worked as a Law Clerk at the International Court of Justice in 2000. Moving on to policy-related roles, they served as a Policy Research Fellow and Policy consultant at the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade. Robert also worked as an Analyst specializing in International Law at the Library of Parliament. In 2006, they became a Part-Time Professor at the University of Ottawa. Robert then transitioned to legal roles at the Department of Justice Canada, starting as a Legislative Counsel and progressing to roles such as Counsel, Senior Counsel, Assistant Director, and ultimately, Director and General Counsel at Health Canada Legal Services. Their responsibilities included managing a team of lawyers, drafting orders and regulations, handling human resources, and preparing briefing materials.

Robert Dufresne completed their LL.B./B.C.L. in Law (common law & civil law) from McGill University in 1997. Robert went on to earn an LL.M. in International Legal Studies from New York University School of Law in 2000. Finally, they obtained a Research Doctorate (J.S.D.) in International Law from New York University School of Law in 2007.
