Akello Odenyo

Akello Odenyo is a skilled communications professional with extensive experience in journalism and media relations. Currently serving as a Press and Media Assistant at the U.S. Department of State since August 2024, Akello also works as a Journalist for Al Jazeera Media Network from January 2023, focusing on contextually rich reporting on Kenya. Previous roles include Communication Officer at Peace Brigades International, where marketing materials were developed and promoted, and Features Writer at Radio Africa Group, recognized for award-winning articles and extensive interviews. Additional experience includes public affairs at the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights, an internship at the Media Council of Kenya, and earlier positions with Standard Group LTD and Kenya Broadcasting Corporation. Akello holds a Bachelor of Science in Communication and Journalism from Moi University, completed in 2014, and a KSCE certificate from Kisumu Girls High School.
