W. Patrick Murphy is a seasoned diplomat with extensive experience in international relations and foreign service. Currently serving as Deputy Commandant, Ambassador & International Affairs Advisor at the National War College, a position held since July 2024, Murphy's career spans over three decades at the U.S. Department of State, where roles have included U.S. Ambassador to Cambodia, Senior Bureau Official for East Asian and Pacific Affairs, and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Southeast Asia, among others. Prior experiences include work with the World Wide Fund for Nature and the Overseas Development Council, as well as serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer. Murphy's academic credentials encompass a Master's in National Security Strategy from the National Defense University and a Master's in International Relations from Johns Hopkins SAIS, alongside a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from the University of Vermont.
