Alan Brady

Independent Governor at Derby College

Alan graduated from the University of Manchester in 1982 with a joint honours degree in history and economics. He also did a PGCE course at Manchester before starting his teaching career in Birkenhead in 1983. Alan taught in schools in Worksop in Nottinghamshire and in Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk. He moved to Derby in 2001 on taking up the post of Deputy Headteacher at Thomas Alleyne’s High School in Uttoxeter. In 2005 Alan was appointed the Headteacher of Allestree Woodlands School. As Headteacher Alan guided Woodlands from being a local authority foundation school to becoming an academy in 2012. Under his leadership Woodlands grew in size and he oversaw a complete rebuild of the school which was completed in 2016. Alan retired from Headship in August 2019 after 14 years at the school. Alan chaired the Derby Secondary Headteachers and was a member of the Secondary Strategy Group of the Derby Opportunity Area. Alan was also the Derby City representative for the Association of School and College Leaders (ASCL) and from 2015-2019 was a member of its National Council. He chaired the ASCL Leadership and Governance Committee and was a member of ASCL National Executive for 2018-2019.
