Thomas Christian

Principal Scientist - Director Of Protein Science at Detect

Thomas Christian has a long history of work experience in the field of chemistry. From 2002 to 2003, they worked as a Research Associate at Henry Ford Health System. Thomas then moved to Wayne State University, where they were a Graduate Research Assistant from 2003 to 2009. After that, they worked as a Post-doctoral Research Associate at Yale University from 2009 to 2014, where they developed steady state, pre-steady state and single-molecule assays to further elucidate the mechanism of DNA polymerases belonging to several families. Thomas also led four research assistants in the mutagenesis and purification of over twenty mutant polymerases as well as produced mutants that contained unnatural amino acids for labeling purposes. In 2012, Thomas became an Assistant Professor of Chemistry at Concordia University Wisconsin and held this position until 2016. From 2016 to 2022, they worked at Quantum-Si as a Staff Scientist and Senior Scientist - Program Manager. Currently, Thomas is a Protein Design and Engineering Lead at Detect.

Thomas Christian completed post-doctoral training at Yale University from 2009 to 2012 in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry. Thomas obtained their PhD from Wayne State University in 2009, majoring in Chemistry (Biochemistry). Thomas earned a BS from Northern Michigan University from 1998 to 2001, majoring in Biology with minors in Chemistry and Computer Science.
