Tracy Smith Irwin has a diverse work experience in the field of exhibitions and collections. Tracy started their career in 1998 as an Exhibitions Manager at Detroit Artists Market, where they were responsible for creating and maintaining exhibitions, overseeing catalogs, and managing accounting for the gallery.

In 2002, Tracy joined the Detroit Historical Society as the Director of Exhibitions and Collections. In this role, they led the development, design, and implementation of both permanent and temporary exhibitions at the Detroit Historical Museum and Dossin Great Lakes Museums. Tracy also had oversight of the Society's extensive collections and its online digital collection.

In 2018, Tracy was promoted to the Chief Exhibitions and Enrichment Officer position at the Detroit Historical Society. Leading a diverse team, they are dedicated to telling Detroit's stories and serving the community through creative and enriching ways.

Throughout their career, Tracy has demonstrated a passion for showcasing art and history and a commitment to facilitating meaningful experiences for audiences.

Tracy Smith Irwin obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Fine Art - Painting from the College for Creative Studies between the years 1994 and 1998. Following this, Tracy studied for four semesters of Art History and fine art at Oakland Community College.
