Video Coordinator at Detroit Red Wings

LJ Scarpace joins the Red Wings in 2019-20 as video coach after working two seasons in the same role from 2017-19 with the Carolina Hurricanes, who enjoyed a run to the Eastern Conference Final in 2019-20. As video coach, Scarpace is responsible for categorizing game film into clips used by the coaching staff for team meetings, pre-game scouting reports and practices and communicates with the bench coaches from the coaches' office during games regarding in-game adjustments or potential video reviews.

Scarpace, 43, previously worked 13 seasons at the University of Michigan from 2004-17 under longtime head coach Red Berenson. Scarpace served as the team's video coordinator from 2004-14 and spent his last three seasons with the school as director of player development from 2014-17. A native of Dearborn, Mich., Scarpace also played for the Wolverines as a goaltender, posting a 6-2-0 record and 1.94 goals-against average in 15 appearances for the university from 1999-01.

Prior to his time in Ann Arbor, Scarpace logged two seasons in the United States Hockey League with the Omaha Lancers and Fargo-Moorhead Bears and attended Western Michigan University from 1996-98.
