Nyia Slade, M.Ed, is a Detroit Promise Manager at the Detroit Regional Chamber, where Nyia conducts informational sessions and workshops in Detroit high schools to educate students about the Detroit Promise scholarship. Nyia also organizes campus visits and tours for high school students to encourage pursuit of higher education. Prior to their current role, Nyia worked as a Graduate Assistant for Pre-college Programming at Grand Valley State University, where Nyia coordinated college access initiatives and supported GVSU authorized charter schools. Nyia also has experience as a Financial Aid Phone Banker and has held leadership positions in various student organizations during their time at GVSU. Nyia is currently pursuing a Doctor of Education - EdD in K-12 at Grand Canyon University.

Connecting Leaders, Inspiring Change in Their CommunityLeadership Detroit is a community leadership program for executives in Southeast Michigan led by the Detroit Regional Chamber with more than 1,800 alumni. Launched in 1979, the program aims to create awareness of key issues that affect the Detroit region and to challenge emerging andexisting community leaders to bring about positive change in the community through informed leadership.Leadership Detroit offers a once in a lifetime opportunity for professionals to take their leadership agenda to the next level. They offer a unique, behind-the-scenes approach to understanding the inner workings of the region and the people that make it work.Participants tap into a diverse pool of professionals that are actively engaged from multiple perspectives in improving the quality of life in the region. The conversation is open and fluid and embraces multiple perspectives. They create a space where new ideas can emerge and where assumptions can be challenged.
