Syrena W. has extensive experience in educational support and student success roles, currently serving as a College Success Coach at the Detroit Regional Chamber since May 2020. Previous positions include Graduate Research Assistant at Eastern Michigan University, where assistance was provided to the program director focusing on the graduate student journey, and a Professional Aide at Michigan State University, responsible for monitoring student records and supporting recruitment and retention efforts. Syrena has also worked as a Program Assistant for SEO, enhancing data-tracking systems for 10th-grade students, and held various roles at Western Michigan University, including College Advisor and First-Year Experience Instructor. Educational qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Merchandising from Western Michigan University, a Master’s degree in Higher Education from Eastern Michigan University, and currently pursuing a PhD in Educational Leadership at Oakland University.

Launched in 1979, the program aims to create awareness of key issues that affect the Detroit region and to challenge emerging andexisting community leaders to bring about positive change in the community through informed leadership.Leadership Detroit offers a once in a lifetime opportunity for professionals to take their leadership agenda to the next level. They offer a unique, behind-the-scenes approach to understanding the inner workings of the region and the people that make it work.Participants tap into a diverse pool of professionals that are actively engaged from multiple perspectives in improving the quality of life in the region.
