Andy McDowell is a qualified landscape architect with extensive experience in sustainability and ecological design. Currently serving as the Manager of Sustainability at the Detroit Zoological Society since July 2021, Andy has previously held positions such as Associate Landscape Architect at SmithGroup, where tenure lasted from September 2014 to July 2021, and Landscape Designer and Ecological Resource Specialist at JFNew from March 2010 to September 2014. Early career experiences include working as a Horticulturalist at Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park and as a Landscape Architect at MSU Landscape Architecture. Andy obtained a Bachelor's degree in Landscape Architecture, focusing on Ecological Restoration and Sustainable Site Design from Michigan State University, where studies were completed in May 2009.
