Stephen Boppart

Stephen oversees the medical direction and supports its study goals. His greatest interest is in developing novel biomedical imaging technologies for the improvement of human health. He is an Abel Bliss Professor of Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, with appointments in the Departments of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Bioengineering, and Medicine. As a faculty member at the University’s Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology, he is Head of the Biophotonics Imaging Laboratory and Director of the Center for Optical Molecular Imaging. He earned a PhD from MIT and an MD from Harvard University.
