Sarah Macdonell has extensive work experience in the engineering field. Sarah started their career at Arctic Circle Ltd in 2004 as a Manufacturing & Development Engineer, where they supported the engineering function and performed manufacturing engineering tasks. Sarah then moved on to become the Engineering Manager at Arctic Circle Limited in 2005, where they managed a team of engineers and was responsible for budgeting.

In 2008, Sarah joined Malvern Instruments as a Mechanical Design Engineer, working on the design and development of new products. Sarah later became a Senior Mechanical Engineer and then a Principal Mechanical Engineer, where they led a small team and developed and maintained the company's mechanical engineering strategy.

Most recently, Sarah has been working at Diamond Light Source since 2017. Sarah started as the Head of Beamline Systems Engineering, overseeing the engineering group's quality and resource management. In 2019, they took on the additional role of Head of Engineering, and they are currently in this position.

Sarah Macdonell has a diverse education history. Sarah obtained their Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from The Open University, focusing on Leadership Practice, during the period from 2020 to 2022. Prior to that, they completed a Master's degree in Mechatronics at Loughborough University from 2002 to 2003. Sarah also earned their Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Loughborough University between 1999 and 2002.

In addition to their academic qualifications, Sarah Macdonell has also obtained two certifications. Sarah earned the APM Project Management Qualification (PMQ) from the Association for Project Management in April 2019. Furthermore, they hold the Chartered Engineer (CEng) certification, but the specific institution and the year of obtaining this certification were not provided.
