Reservoir Engineer Manager at Diamondback Energy

Clay Arrington has a diverse work experience spanning multiple companies and roles. Clay began their career as a Futures Financial Advisor at Southwest Securities, where they traded and managed futures, options, and equity portfolios for clients.

Arrington then joined Apache Corporation in 2011 as a Field Engineering Intern, gaining valuable field experience by pumping wells, maintaining surface facilities, and supervising pulling units. Clay also led acid stimulations and workovers during this time.

Clay continued their journey at Apache Corporation, where they worked as a Production Engineering Intern in 2012, taking charge of the Adair Field and overseeing activities such as production, CO2 and water injection, and maintaining ~3300 BOPD production.

Starting in May 2013, Arrington completed the Petroleum Engineering Development Program at Apache Corporation, rotating through various roles. Clay worked as a Reservoir Engineer I in the Gulf Coast Region, analyzing deep liquid-rich gas prospects and assisting with Eagle Ford modeling and development. Clay then transitioned to the role of Drilling Engineer I, drilling Eagle Ford wells using batch drilling techniques. As a Reservoir Engineer I at Corporate HQ, they estimated ultimate recovery and reserves for the Permian region and conducted type curve analysis for Bone Springs wells in the Delaware. Clay gained further experience as a Production Engineer I in the Central Region, performing cost lookbacks, training field staff, and evaluating gas lift efficiency and workover candidates. Additionally, Arrington served as a Reservoir Engineer I in the Permian Region, managing three conventional waterfloods and developing plans for revitalizing the floods and increasing reserves. Lastly, as a Production Engineer I in the Permian Region, they led successful acid re-stimulation programs on horizontal wells.

In 2016, Arrington joined Diamondback Energy as a Senior Reservoir Engineer, where they managed the Southern Delaware Basin assets in Texas. Clay'sresponsibilities involved managing the rig program, leading a team for asset development, evaluating acquisitions and divestitures, and optimizing development through technical studies.

Arrington's role at Diamondback Energy evolved, and they progressed to become a Senior Staff Reservoir Engineer and later a BD Reservoir Engineering Supervisor. Currently, they serve as the Reservoir Engineer Manager, overseeing the company's reservoir engineering operations.

Throughout their career, Arrington has demonstrated expertise in reservoir engineering, production engineering, and field operations, particularly within the Permian and Gulf Coast regions.

Clay Arrington completed their Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) degree in Petroleum Engineering at Texas Tech University from 2010 to 2013. During the same period, they also pursued a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) degree in Business at Texas Tech University - Rawls College of Business. Prior to this, from 2002 to 2007, Clay attended Texas Tech University, where they earned a degree in Agriculture and Applied Economics with a specialization in Economics.
