Lawrence S. Phillips, M.D. has a long and distinguished career in medicine. Lawrence S. began their career in 1969 as a Staff Associate at Grady Health System and a Lab Program (USPHS) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In 1970, they became an Instructor in Medicine at Emory University. In 1971, they became a Fellow in Metabolism at Washington University School of Medicine and in 1972, an Assistant Physician at Barnes-Jewish Hospital. In 1974, they moved to Northwestern University, Feinberg School of Medicine as an Assistant Professor of Medicine and later, an Associate Professor of Medicine. In 1983, they returned to Emory University as a Professor of Medicine, Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism, Program Director of the General Clinical Research Center, and Director of the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism. In 1985, they became a Partner at Emory Healthcare. In 2006, they took on the role of Director of the Clinical Studies Center at the Atlanta VA Medical Center. In 2014, they founded and became the Chief Medical Officer of DIASYST.

Lawrence S. Phillips, M.D. obtained a Bachelor's Degree from Swarthmore College in 1963. Lawrence S. then attended Harvard Medical School, where they earned their Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) in 1967. In 1972, they obtained ABIM Board Certification from the American Board of Internal Medicine. In 1973, they obtained Subspecialty Boards in Endocrinology and Metabolism from the same institution.
