Joseph Smalley

Principal Optical Engineer at DigiLens

Joseph Smalley has worked in various positions since 2011. Joseph was a Visiting Scholar at IMEC from 2011 to 2014, a PhD Candidate at UC San Diego from 2014 to 2016, a Postdoctoral Scholar at the University of California, San Diego - Jacobs School of Engineering from 2016 to 2017, a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of California, Berkeley from 2017 to 2018, and a Senior Optical Engineer and Principal Optical Engineer at DigiLens Inc. from 2018 to the present. During their time as a Graduate Intern at Sandia National Laboratories in 2015, their research involved the theory, design, fabrication, measurement, and analysis of materials and devices for nanoscale light sources, modulators, and detectors. During their time as a Visiting Scholar at IMEC, their research focused on Organic Photovoltaics.

Joseph Smalley completed their Bachelor of Science in Engineering Science from Penn State University in 2011. Joseph then pursued a Master of Science in Electrical & Computer Engineering from the University of California, San Diego, graduating in 2013. In 2016, they obtained their Doctor of Philosophy in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of California, San Diego.
