Rafael F. Colón has a diverse work experience in the field of digital art and compositing. Rafael F. started their career at VIFX in 1996 as a Digital Artist, where they worked until 1999. Rafael F. then joined Rhythm & Hues as a Digital Artist: Compositor until 2000. In 2000, they moved to Digital Domain for a similar role as a Digital Artist: Compositor, where they worked until 2001. Colón then joined ILM in 2001 as a Digital Artist: Compositor, and they stayed in this role until 2003. Rafael F. returned to Digital Domain in the same year, initially as a Lead Digital Artist and later as a Compositing Supervisor.
Rafael F. Colón began their education in 1990 at the Universidad de Puerto Rico, where they pursued an Associate degree in Graphics Arts and Photography. Rafael F. completed this program in 1992. In the same year, Colón enrolled at the Ringling College of Art and Design, where they pursued a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Computer Animation. Rafael F. studied at Ringling College of Art and Design from 1992 until 1996, completing their degree. In 1994, Colón also received a Summer Program Scholarship at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where they focused on 3D Computer Animation and 16mm Filmmaking for a brief period.
