Technical Project Director of VILS at Digital Promise

Jane Miller joined Digital Promise in 2021 as an associate director of professional learning for the Verizon Innovative Learning Schools initiative and transitioned to the role of technical project director for the same program in 2022. Prior to Digital Promise, Jane spent 26 years in K-20 public education in California and Washington as a leader and advocate for decreasing barriers to support equity and access to technology. She has spent time as a classroom teacher; instructional technology facilitator, coordinator, and director for the second-largest district in Washington State; and adjunct faculty in the Department of Education at Cal State Fullerton and Washington State University. She has also served as a board member for the Northwest Council for Computer Education (NCCE) representing technology directors in the Pacific Northwest; a member of state and local committees; and as a member of the Federal Way Public Schools superintendent’s cabinet in the teaching for learning role as director of instructional technology, STEM, project-based learning, standards-based grading and reporting, and blended learning, as well as principal of the high school credit recovery program. In her role with FWPS, Jane helped establish and launch two K-8 and one 6-12 STEM PBL District Demonstration Site Lighthouse 1:1 schools; redefined programs like credit recovery with a focus on race, exceptionalities, and individual needs; and supported the successful transition to remote and hybrid learning in the most diverse district in the state of Washington and fifth-most diverse district in the nation. To continue to grow and share her expertise, Jane has also been consulting across the United States and globally since 2007, mentoring districts and schools on intentional technology integration, STEM, project-based learning, and standards-based grading and reporting.
