Giel Van den Broeck, PhD has a diverse range of work experience starting from 2007. Giel began their career in 2007 as a worker at Distridijle NV, a distribution center for papery media, where they prepared orders for delivery. In 2007, they also worked as a web designer on freelance projects, which helped him develop programming skills and sparked their creativity.
From 2008 to 2010, Giel worked as a student shop assistant at Standaard Boekhandel, where they gained experience in various tasks related to bookshop operations. During this time, they recognized the importance of customer satisfaction for building customer loyalty.
In 2012, Giel became a private tutor and provided guidance to new engineering students, enhancing their own knowledge in the process. Later that year, they joined KU Leuven as a Student Representative for the Educational Council MSc Energy, actively participating in student governance.
In 2013, Giel served as the Vice President of YERA | Young Energy Reviewers Association, a think tank on energy, where they contributed to providing accurate and unbiased information about the energy sector to the public.
Starting from 2014, Giel was employed at EnergyVille as a PhD Researcher at KU Leuven. In this role, they focused on exploring the possibilities of applying direct current in future distribution systems. Giel'sresponsibilities included developing power electronic converters and control algorithms to ensure the stability of (bipolar) DC distribution systems. Giel also collaborated with KAHO Sint-Lieven, Ghent, to develop a measurement setup for solar photovoltaic module performance assessment.
In 2020, Giel founded DCINERGY, and in 2021, they co-founded Direct Energy Partners, assuming the role of Co-Founder & CTO. Further details about the roles, responsibilities, and accomplishments during these two positions are not provided.

From 2009 to 2014, they attended KU Leuven, where they earned a Bachelor of Science in Engineering with a focus on Mechanical and Electrical Engineering.
Continuing their studies at KU Leuven, Giel obtained a Master of Engineering in 2014, specializing in Energy with a specific emphasis on Electric energy.
During the period of 2015 to 2017, they attended Vrij Technisch Instituut Leuven - Centrum voor volwassenenonderwijs, where they pursued a degree in Welding.
In 2019, Giel completed their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Electrical Engineering at KU Leuven.
Giel Van den Broeck also holds several additional certifications, including a Doctor of Engineering Science from KU Leuven, obtained in November 2019. Additionally, they earned a Welding certification from VTI Leuven in June 2017. Giel also obtained a Master of Science in Engineering: Energy from KU Leuven in July 2014, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Engineering: Mechanical and Electrical Engineering from KU Leuven in June 2012.
