Gail Rutherford

Gail Rutherford is an accomplished professional with extensive experience in strategy and mergers and acquisitions within the insurance sector. Currently serving as Director of Strategy and M&A at Direct Line Group since March 2011, Gail has held various leadership roles, including Tribe Lead for Pricing Practices and Head of DLG Legal Services, focusing on transforming legal services for accessibility. Notable achievements include leading the successful sale of DLG's international operations for EUR550m. Prior to Direct Line Group, Gail spent over seven years at Arthur J. Gallagher in roles including Corporate Development Director, where strategic growth initiatives were developed and executed. Earlier career experiences span positions at MBS Advertising, Valpak Limited, and SolidWorks, contributing analytical and business development expertise. Gail holds an EMBA with distinction from Cass Business School and a BSc in Statistics & Psychology from Newcastle University, along with a Diploma from the Chartered Insurance Institute.
