Salgu Wissmath is a documentary photographer and communications professional based in San Antonio, currently offering freelance photo and video services for editorial publications and nonprofits. Since February 2019, Salgu has led Salgu Wissmath Photography and also serves as the Communications Director at Diversify Photo LLC, where responsibilities include managing newsletters and social media to promote diversity in the photo industry. With experience as a Photo Fellow under the Hearst Fellowship program at both San Francisco Chronicle and San Antonio Express-News, Salgu has collaborated with major clients such as The New York Times, The Guardian, and NPR. An educational background includes a Master of Arts in Photography from Ohio University and a Bachelor's degree in Linguistics from the University of California, Berkeley. Diversify Photo LLC
Diversify is a verb. It is an action – an intentional movement to break with the predominantly colonial and patriarchal eye through which history and the mass media has seen and recorded the images of our time. Diversify was born out of a recognition that calling for more diversity in the photo industry is not enough. To diversify photo, we need to equip Art Buyers, Creative Directors, and Photo Directors with resources to discover photographers of color available for assignments and commissions.
