Chris Toumazou started their work experience in 1986 as a Research Fellow and later became a Lecturer in Information Engineering at Imperial College London. In 1992, they became a Reader in Circuit Design at the same institution. From 1994 to 2013, they served as a Professor of Engineering at Imperial College London, where they conducted pioneering research in silicon semiconductor technology and its applications in medical innovations such as cochlear implants, artificial pancreas, wireless heart monitors, semiconductor-based DNA sequencing, and intelligent neural stimulators. In 2001, they founded Toumaz UK Ltd, which developed the world's first wireless healthcare patch. In 2004, they became the Chief Scientist and Founding Director of the Institute of Biomedical Engineering at Imperial College London, where they raised a significant amount of funding and established numerous commercial licenses and spin-out companies. In the same year, they also founded DNA Electronics Ltd, a company that merged microchip technology with genetic chemistry and DNA sequencing to achieve fast genetic sequencing for point-of-care diagnostics. In 2015, they co-founded DnaNudge, a company that uses consumers' DNA and lifestyle factors to guide healthier choices while shopping. Finally, in 2016, they served as a Non-Executive Director at Owlstone Medical.
Chris Toumazou earned a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Engineering from Oxford Brookes University, which they attended from 1980 to 1983.
