Kelly Jaakkola has a diverse background in marine mammal research and academia. Kelly began their career in 1997 as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. After that, they served as a Visiting Lecturer & Research Affiliate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 1999 to 2000. In 2000, they joined Boston College as an Assistant Professor until 2002.
In 2002, Kelly Jaakkola transitioned to the Dolphin Research Center, where they worked for many years. Kelly started as a Senior Research Scientist from 2002 to 2008, and later became the Director of Research in 2008.
