Alton Owens is Vice President – Investments, Environmental Assets at Domain Timber Advisors, LLC, a SEC-registered investment adviser and a subsidiary of Domain Capital Group. In this role, he is responsible for the direct oversight and management of the environmental investment platform for the firm.
In 2006, Mr. Owens began his career as a professional environmental consultant specializing in aquatic habitat restoration, Clean Water Act Section 404 permitting and habitat conservation plans for protected species. As Biologist with the firm, and later Project Manager, Mr. Owens managed the coordination of regulatory agencies throughout the Southeast in the development of large-scale, multi-site mitigation plans for numerous public water supply reservoir projects and mitigation banking instruments.
Prior to joining Domain Timber Advisors, Mr. Owens enjoyed a nearly five-year tenure with Eco-Tech Consultants, Inc. as Southeast Regional Director and Senior Ecologist. Here, Mr. Owens provided consulting services to large-scale Timberland Investment Management Organizations and delivered conservation valuation of various properties, as well as mitigation banking feasibility opinions and mitigation credit generation audits. Notably, Mr. Owens also spearheaded the launch of the firm’s Georgia field office to expand the company’s presence in the Southeast.
An experienced wildlife biologist and stream and wetland designer, Mr. Owens is an active member of the Georgia Associations of Environmental Professionals, the Wildlife Society, the National Speleological Society and the Southeastern Bat Diversity Network. He is also a member of the Technical Committee of the Georgia Environmental Restoration Association, a collaboration of environmental professionals who are active in an ecosystem restoration marketplace in Georgia.
Mr. Owens holds a B.S. in Forest Resources with a focus in Wildlife from the Daniel B. Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources at the University of Georgia.
