Daniel Ayala is the current Chief Security & Trust Officer at Dotmatics. Daniel has held this position since March of 2022. Prior to joining Dotmatics, Ayala served as the Chief Information Security Officer at LabArchives, LLC from February of 2020 to March of 2022. Daniel was also the Interim Chief Information Security Officer at Michigan State University from February of 2020 to November of 2020. In this role, they were responsible for the university-wide information security and privacy program, which included governance, risk and compliance, security engineering and operations, identity and access management, badging, incident response, and data protection. Ayala focused on building strong relationships with academic and administrative units, incident response coordination and communication, establishing IAM strategy and architecture, securing remote teaching and learning and remote working transformations and data protection and sharing governance due to the pandemic.
From November of 2013 to June of 2019, Ayala served as the Chief Information Security Officer and Privacy Officer at ProQuest. In this role, they were responsible for leading ProQuest’s information security and privacy program globally. Daniel oversaw all aspects of information security, including developing and implementing strategy, policy, procedures and controls; managing security incidents; conducting risk assessments; and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Daniel also led ProQuest’s privacy program, overseeing all aspects of data privacy compliance, including developing and implementing strategy, policy, procedures and controls; managing data privacy incidents; conducting risk assessments; and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
Prior to joining ProQuest, Ayala served as Managing Partner at Secratic from 2011 to 2013. In this role, they were responsible for leading the firm’s consulting practice and advising clients on a wide range of security and privacy issues. Daniel also served as Chief Information Security Officer at Lumen Worldwide Endeavors from 2009 to 2011. In this role, they were responsible for leading Lumen’s information security program and ensuring that the company’s systems and data were protected from unauthorized access or disclosure.
Daniel Ayala is a computer security professional who holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Daniel is certified by ISC2 as a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) and by OGC as an IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) Version 2 and 3 certified professional.
