Ben Johnson

Lead Designer at Double Fine Productions

Ben Johnson has a diverse work experience in the fields of game development, virtual reality, and interactive software. Ben was a Lead Designer at Double Fine Productions since 2017. Prior to that, Ben worked as a Freelance Unreal Developer for artist Leo Villareal, helping him create virtual versions of their installation art. Ben also worked as a Contract VR Developer at Piranha NYC and as a Principal Game Director at Dozen Eyes, where they consulted, designed, and programmed games for various clients. Additionally, Ben held roles at Babycastles, a non-profit arts organization focused on independent video games, and worked as a Technical Designer at Perception. Ben co-created the touch-based puzzle game Crystallon and worked as a Producer at NYU Game Innovation Lab. Ben also gained experience as a Game Developer at Dark Roast Media and as a Lead Game Designer at PlayMada Games.

Ben Johnson completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Japanese, Mathematics, and Interdisciplinary Studies from North Central College from 1998 to 2002. Subsequently, they pursued a Masters degree in Entertainment Technology from Carnegie Mellon University from 2002 to 2004.
