Brian Townsend

Brian grew up swimming and working at the Bath Area Family YMCA *(LRSC) where he first started teaching swim lessons, mentoring the younger kids on the swim team and lifeguarding. In 1998, he started the Strippers swim team at the Casco Bay YMCA. He later went to the Cape Cod YMCA in 2000 where he helped rebuild both the swim lessons, and swim team programs. Brian also Coached the Barnstable High School Swim Team from 2003-2005. In 2005, he took the position as Head Coach at the Wareham YMCA, (part of YMCA Southcoast) where he started the Riptides Swim Team. In 2009, he and his wife decided to move back to Maine where he became the Aquatics Director at the Casco Bay YMCA and coach of the Yarmouth High School and Middle School teams. About 8 years ago he and his wife decided to move to Blue Hill where he has worked as a self-employed carpenter and property manager for several estates in the area.

When Brian learned about the opportunity at the Down East Family YMCA, he couldn’t resist getting back into aquatics and the Y movement.
