Joseph Richards

Joseph Richards has held various positions in the tech industry since 2005. In 2005, they were a Visiting Researcher at Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory, where they worked with Dr. Hugo Schwarz on 3D reconstruction of planetary nebulae from spatially resolved spectral data and monitoring the sky brightness levels in the north of Chile as a Fulbright Scholar. From 2006 to 2010, they were a Teaching Assistant in Statistics at Carnegie Mellon University. From 2010 to 2012, they were a Lecturer and Postdoctoral Researcher at UC Berkeley. From 2012 to 2016, they were the Co-founder, Chief Data Scientist, and Chief Scientist at wise.io, Inc., where they built a fully containerized production-grade ML system. From 2016 to 2019, they were the VP - Data & Analytics at GE Digital, where they ran the Wise Data Science Applications team and was the first team within GE to deploy machine learning in production into their core businesses. In 2019, they became the COO and Head Of Operations at Down to Cook.

Joseph Richards obtained a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from Pomona College between 2001 and 2005. Joseph then went on to earn a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Statistics from Carnegie Mellon University between 2006 and 2010.
