Senior Principal Data Scientist at DTN

Gerard Ompad has extensive work experience in the field of data science, machine learning, and analytics. Gerard began their career in 2010 as a Statistician/HIV Behavioral Change and Communications Coordinator at The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria. Gerard then worked in various roles in organizations such as Youth AIDS Filipinas Alliance, Inc., Youth LEAD, and GlobeTekPro (GTP) where they conducted research, provided technical consultancy, and managed projects related to epidemiology, public health, and data analysis.

In 2014, Gerard joined United Laboratories, Inc. as a Corporate Information Technology Consultant (Analytics) where they provided consultancy services for big data analytics and corporate business intelligence projects. Gerard later moved to lloopp Natural Intelligence Solutions as a Senior Data Scientist (Machine Learning Engineer), where they focused on research and development of machine learning algorithms for various industries.

Gerard then worked at Tiaxa as a Data Science Manager, leading the Department of Data Science, Technology, and Innovations. Gerard conducted Artificial Intelligence research and development for different industries. Gerard further enhanced their expertise at Globe Telecom as a Customer Insights & Analytics Manager, where they managed and analyzed large and complex datasets, and provided actionable insights through data storytelling and visualization techniques.

Most recently, Gerard joined DTN as a Senior Principal Data Scientist, conducting data engineering, quality checks, and consultative meetings for data interpretation. Gerard will soon be joining the University of San Carlos as a Faculty Lecturer in Data Science & Machine Learning in 2023. Overall, Gerard Ompad has a diverse background in data science and machine learning, with a focus on applying their skills across various industries and organizations.

Gerard Ompad earned a Master of Science degree in Mathematical Statistics and Probability from the University of the Philippines, which they attended from 2017 to 2023. Prior to that, they obtained an MSc. in Tropical Medicine with a focus on Biostatistics from the University of the East, where they studied from 2011 to 2015. Gerard's undergraduate degree is in Chemical Engineering, which they completed at the University of San Carlos from 2003 to 2008. In addition to their formal education, they have obtained various certifications including Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare from the University of Cambridge, Summer School on Snakebite Envenoming from Goethe University Frankfurt, Machine Learning Summer School from OxML, Time Series Analysis from the Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal), Computational Bayes from the University of the Philippines Diliman, and R Programming and The Data Scientist's Toolbox from Coursera. Gerard is also a Licensed Chemical Engineer recognized by the Professional Regulatory Commission in the Philippines.
