Founding Professor | Head Of The Robotics Design Research Lab at Dubai Institute of Design and Innovation

Raffi Tchakerian serves as the Founding Professor and Head of the Robotics Design Research Lab at the Dubai Institute of Design and Innovation since June 2018, where contributions include co-creating the Foundation program with MIT and Parsons, developing Python programs for Bachelor's of Design accreditation, and establishing advanced workshops in robotic manufacturing. Tchakerian's previous academic roles include faculty positions at the American University of Beirut, Lebanese American University, and Académie Libanaise des Beaux-Arts, alongside significant design and project management experience at Architecture and Vision from 2008 to 2015, where involvement spanned design and R&D for over 20 projects, including a successful Kickstarter campaign for the Warka Water Program. Educational credentials encompass a PhD in Design Sciences with a focus on Aerospace Design, a Master's in Product Design, and a Bachelor's in Industrial Design, all from Università Iuav di Venezia.

In collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and The New School’s Parsons School of Design, Dubai Institute of Design and Innovation (DIDI) is a private, non-profit university, located at Dubai Design District (d3), accredited by the Ministry of Education in the UAE. With its first intake in 2018, DIDI is focused on nurturing, mentoring and creating the next generation of designers. The curriculum is designed to empower students to map out their own four-year educational journey, culminating in the region’s first Integrated Bachelor of Design degree, with a choice of concentration in the areas of Product Design, Multimedia Design, Fashion Design and Strategic Design Management.
