James Byrne

Programme Director, Msc In Management Of Operations at Dublin City University

James Byrne has a diverse work experience spanning several companies and roles. James started their career as a Transceiver Applications Engineer Intern at Infineon Technologies in Munich, Germany in 2000. James later worked as a part-time Lecturer at Limerick Institute of Technology in Ireland in 2006. From 2010 to 2011, they served as the CTO at Azotus Analytics Ltd., where they participated in a start-up development program.

In 2011, Byrne became a Research Scientist at SAP Research, focusing on applied research and technology infrastructure. James was also the SAP Project Lead for a €10 million project. From 2013 to 2017, they worked as a Senior Research Fellow at Dublin City University, where they served as a Co-Principal Investigator for various funded projects and conducted postdoctoral research.

Byrne joined NUI Galway as a Lecturer from 2015 to 2017, teaching Enterprise Modelling and Simulation as part of a part-time BSc Degree. James also delivered simulation workshops. In 2017, Byrne returned to Dublin City University as a Lecturer in Management Science, specializing in Operations and Analytics. James also took on the role of Programme Director for the MSc in Management of Operations.

Additionally, Byrne has served as an Expert Proposal Evaluator for the European Commission since 2020. With a strong background in research, teaching, and industry, James Byrne has accumulated a wide range of experiences and expertise in the field of management science and operations.

James Byrne has a Bachelor of Technology (Honours) in Information Technology and Telecommunications (IT&T) from the University of Limerick, which they obtained from 1997 to 2002. James then pursued a Master of Technology (Honours) in Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM) from the same university, completing it from 2002 to 2004. James later obtained a Professional Diploma in Innovation Value Institute (IVI) - Managing Information Technology for Business Value from Maynooth University in 2011. Finally, they earned a PhD in Operations / Management Science from the University of Limerick, completing it between 2004 and 2008.
