Tim Scales

Tim Scales is an experienced professional in innovation, entrepreneurship, and nonprofit management. Currently serving as an Adjunct Professor in Innovation & Entrepreneurship at Duke University since August 2024, Tim also holds the position of Executive Director and previously Director of Growth at American Underground, a startup hub in Durham, NC, recognized as a Google for Startups Tech Hub. Tim's prior roles include Sales Lead at Caktus Group (2018-2020), Founder of CivicRise (2016-2017), and Nonprofit Consulting Fellow at TDC (2016). Tim has a background in arts management as General Manager of PlayMakers Repertory Company (2014-2015) and Founder of Wagon Wheel Arts Marketing (2012-2015), with additional experience in marketing and finance roles at Ensemble Studio Theatre, Roundabout Theatre Company, and Berkshire Theatre Festival. Educational qualifications include an M.B.A. in Social Entrepreneurship from Duke University's Fuqua School of Business and a BA in Theatre, Non-Profit Management, and Women's Studies from Guilford College.
