AI Research Engineer II at Duolingo

Badr Albanna has a diverse work experience spanning various fields. Badr started their career as a Summer Program Instructor for The Compass Project at UC Berkeley, where they designed and coordinated a program to attract and retain underrepresented students in the physical science majors. Badr also served as a Graduate Student Instructor at UC Berkeley, teaching a range of lower and upper-division courses and receiving recognition for their teaching effectiveness. In addition, Albanna worked as a Graduate Student Researcher at UC Berkeley, where they developed algorithms and conducted research in non-linear dimensionality reduction techniques.

Albanna then joined Fordham University as an Adjunct Instructor and later became an Assistant Professor of Neurophysics. In these roles, they utilized the PyData stack and machine learning tools to devise methods for decoding information from brain activity and simulate spiking neural networks. Their work was widely adopted by several laboratories.

Albanna also worked as a Tutor for Bespoke Education, Inc., Forum Education, and the Yale Arab Alumni Association, providing academic support and guidance.

Currently, Albanna is an AI Research Engineer II at Duolingo, where they are involved in AI research projects.

Badr Albanna completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and Physics at Yale University from 2000 to 2004. Following this, they pursued further studies at the University of California, Berkeley, where they obtained a PhD in Theoretical Physics from 2004 to 2013.
