Jessie Brewster

Assistant Principal at E.L. Haynes Public Charter School

Jessie Brewster, Elementary School Assistant Principal, began her career in education in high school working as an intern in a kindergarten classroom. Her passion for teaching young students continued to develop as she majored in education at University of the Pacific and then gained her masters degree in teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages at Georgetown University. Ms. Brewster taught a variety of grades kindergarten through twelfth grade in California, Virginia, and Washington, DC, before becoming assistant principal in 2014. As assistant principal, she has participated in New Leaders’ Emerging Leaders (2014) and Aspiring Principals (2016) programs as well as Relay Graduate School of Education’s National Principals Academy (2019) and School Leader Lab’s 2019 leadership cohort.

Founded in 2004, the award-winning E.L. Haynes Public Charter School currently serves 1,200 students from grades Pre-K through 12. E.L. Haynes is named for Dr. Euphemia Lofton Haynes - the first African-American woman to receive a doctorate in mathematics and a DC public school teacher for 47 years.
