Mari K. Niemi has a diverse work experience with various roles in different organizations. Mari K. is currently serving as the Research Director at e2 Tutkimus since January 2021. Previously, they worked as the Director of InnoLab at the University of Vaasa from January 2018 to November 2020. Before that, they were a Blogger at Suomen Kuvalehti, part of Otavamedia, from May 2015 to January 2018. Mari has also worked as a Visiting Researcher at the Human Rights Institute of the University of Valencia from April 2017 to December 2017. Mari K. served as a Senior Researcher at the University of Turku from June 2014 to December 2017 and from March 2015 to February 2015. Additionally, Mari has had research roles as a Guest Researcher at CERGU in the University of Gothenburg in January 2017, a Visiting Scholar in Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Strathclyde from March 2013 to December 2016, and an Expert in the Reflection Group on Populism and Europe's External Relations at the European Policy Centre from March 2015 to March 2016. Lastly, they worked as a Newspaper Columnist for Turun Sanomat from April 2013 to April 2015 and as a Doctoral Candidate at the University of Tampere from October 2012 to May 2014.
Mari K. Niemi has a Master's Degree in Political History from the University of Turku, which they obtained from 2000 to 2004. Mari K. further pursued their education at the same university, completing their Doctor of Social Sciences, DSocSci degree in Political History from 2010 to 2014. In 2012, Mari also attended the University of Oslo (UiO) for a Summer School in Comparative Social Science focused on Political Leadership and Democratic Change. Before their university studies, Mari attended Artemia, Käsi- ja taideteollisuusoppilaitos, Savonlinna from 1995 to 1997, where they studied Vaatetusala, pukuhistoria (Fashion, History of Clothing).
