Ryan Boxill, PhD MBA is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in New York and Massachusetts. Dr. Boxill graduated from St. John’s University in Queens, New York at the age of 19 and completed his Harvard Medical School Postdoctoral Fellowship training at the MGH-OCD Institute at McLean Hospital. Subsequently, Dr. Boxill held dual clinical appointments at McLean Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital, with a faculty appointment at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Boxill holds an MBA from the University of Massachusetts in Boston with a specialization in Finance, and he is a certified trainer in Diversity and Intercultural Sensitivity.
Dr. Boxill is a highly skilled strategic professional with 20+ years’ experience in the healthcare industry, leveraging his clinical training, business expertise, strategic visioning and operational leadership to advance organizational goals. He is a seasoned expert in turn-around initiatives, continuous improvement, behavioral health, wellness and clinical operations. He is adept at strategic planning, detailed analysis and operational problem solving. Additionally, Dr. Boxill has worked with organizations in areas such as new business model creation, accounting and finance, strategic investments, disaster mental health and national mental health policy development (Republic of Liberia).
Prior to joining EBNHC, Dr. Boxill served as the Chief Behavioral Health Officer for BMC Health System where he was responsible for leading behavioral health strategy and operations across the health system, including BMC Hospital, BMC’s Wellsense Health Plan, and BMC’s Boston Accountable Care Organization (BACO). Among various accomplishments, Dr. Boxill led the strategic planning, design, and implementation of BMC’s recently launched Brockton-area Psychiatric Hospital. This new hospital is regarded as one the most innovative, state-of-the art, and patient-centered psychiatric facilities in the country.
Prior to BMCHS, Dr. Boxill served as System Vice President at Steward HealthCare, overseeing the largest acute inpatient behavioral health operations in the state of Massachusetts. At Steward, he oversaw a combined 388 acute inpatient psychiatric and detox beds and led the turn-around effort to drastically improve the overall performance of the service line. During his tenure, Steward achieved its highest occupancy and quality standards for behavioral health patients across the system by unifying a previously siloed division. Dr. Boxill also served as a leader at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts where he played integral roles in creating a new business model for the health plan, in addition to the design and implementation of innovative health and wellness programs (one of which received national recognition and was featured on NBC Nightly News).
