Brian Levin-Stankevich

With extensive experience in higher education, EWU Provost Brian Levin-Stankevich brings a deep understanding of all aspects of academic and strategic planning, as well as vast experience in support of student success, community relations, fundraising efforts, and communication.

Since first arriving at EWU in 1995, Levin-Stankevich has served the university in a variety of key roles, including vice provost for student affairs, provost and vice president for academic affairs, and interim president. He helped Eastern win approval from the state for new degree programs such as the Doctor of Physical Therapy (the first doctorate at a comprehensive in Washington); the Master’s in Occupational Therapy; and the Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering—Eastern’s first engineering degree. He has a track record of establishing and maintaining a high level of communication and trust among academic affairs, faculty and the Board of Trustees.

A Fulbright Doctoral Fellowship/IREX Exchange Scholar in legal history at St. Petersburg State University, Levin-Stankevich holds a PhD in Russian history from the University at Buffalo. His research interests center on higher education, comparative education, comparative legal history, organizational culture in higher education, and Imperial and early Soviet Russia.
