Tolga Akcura has been working in the field of marketing since 1990. Tolga began their career as a New Initiatives Manager at Procter and Gamble, then moved on to become a Sales Manager at IBM in 1994. In 2001, they took on the role of Professor of Marketing at Purdue University, followed by a similar position at Long Island University, CW Post Campus in 2006. Tolga was a Professor of Marketing at Ozyegin University from 2009 to 2012, and since 2019, they have been a Research Scholar at Columbia University in the City of New York. In 2012, they founded eBrandValue.

Tolga Akcura began their education in 1986 when they attended Boğaziçi University and earned a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Industrial Engineering in 1990. Tolga then attended Carnegie Mellon University - Tepper School of Business and earned an MBA/ PhD in Marketing in 2001. In 2015, they began attending Y Combinator but has not yet completed their studies.
