Aurélien Babarit

Aurélien Babarit is a research scientist at Ecole Centrale de Nantes since March 2023, previously serving as co-founder and CTO at Farwind Energy from March 2021 to February 2023. Babarit has extensive experience in marine renewable energies, managing the Ocean Energy and Ocean Waves Group and leading various research projects, including the FARWIND project focused on wind energy harvesting and the ANR MONACOREV project for wave energy converter design. Babarit’s academic background includes a PhD in Hydrodynamics and Ocean Engineering from Centrale Nantes, along with ongoing work toward accreditation to supervise research in fluid dynamics at Nantes Université. Notable past roles include a visiting researcher position at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, contributing to wave energy plant design requirements, and a collaborative project at NTNU Trondheim in Norway for benchmarking wave energy converters.
