Barbara Van Allen has a long and varied career in communications, government affairs and marketing. Barbara began their career in 1981 as a Legislative Director for the United States Congress. In 1984, they became the Director of Corporate Communications for ITT, INC., where they provided counsel to senior executives and Board of Directors on strategies for government and political relations and crisis communications. In 1994, they moved to Cushman & Wakefield, where they were the Managing Director of Global Communications. In 2000, they founded and became President of Van Allen Associates, a boutique advisory firm providing strategic communications, stakeholder and investor outreach, and government affairs assistance. In 2003, they joined SourceAmerica as the Chief Marketing Officer and Vice President, Government Affairs, Communications and Marketing, where they spearheaded the creation and roll-out of the Federal AbilityOne brand. In 2010, they became the Senior Vice President, Marketing and Communications for the Mortgage Bankers Association. In 2013, they joined the Center for Audit Quality as the Senior Director of Stakeholder Engagement and Communications. Finally, in 2015 they became the President and Chief Executive Officer of The Economic Club of New York, a membership organization with over 1,200 members.
Barbara Van Allen has a diverse educational background. Barbara earned a BA with Honors in Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Barbara then went on to obtain an MA in Legislative Affairs from The George Washington University. Finally, they completed an MBA from the NYU Stern School of Business.
