Karen Schoelles

Karen Schoelles is a seasoned medical professional with extensive experience in clinical excellence and patient safety. Currently serving as Vice President at ECRI since December 2018, Karen oversees various evidence-based medicine initiatives and safety activities. Previously, Karen was the Director of the ECRI Institute-Penn Medicine Evidence-based Practice Center and ECRI Guidelines Trust, leading health services research and guideline development from July 2005 to March 2021. Karen's experience encompasses roles as Associate Medical Director at MetaWorks, Chief of Community Geriatrics Division at Hebrew Rehabilitation Center, and Internist at several prominent healthcare organizations, including Harvard Community Health Plan. Karen holds a Master of Science in Health Policy and Management from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Florida College of Medicine.
