Melanie Shanker has extensive work experience in the legal field, specializing in environmental and renewable energy sectors. Melanie currently holds the position of Legal Affairs Director and Company Secretary at EDF Renewables UK & Ireland since April 2021. Prior to this, they served as General Counsel and Company Secretary at Pivot Power, an EDF Renewables UK company, from February 2019 to April 2021. At Pivot Power, they played a crucial role in advising on the company's acquisition and provided legal advice on various aspects, including corporate governance.

Melanie started their career as a Paralegal at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in 2005 and later gained experience as an Intern in the Division of Policy Development and Environmental Law at the United Nations Environment Programme. Melanie then worked as an Associate and later as a Legal Counsel at Climate Change Capital Ltd, a company specializing in low-carbon investments and advisory services. Melanie joined Linklaters as a Managing Associate in October 2011, where they worked until January 2019.

Throughout their career, Melanie has consistently focused on the legal aspects of renewable energy, environmental policies, and corporate governance.

Melanie Shanker completed their education at various institutions. Melanie obtained a Bachelor of Commerce degree with majors in Finance and Marketing from the University of Sydney between 1999 and 2001. Following that, they pursued a Law degree, LLB (Hons), from the same university from 1999 to 2004. In order to gain practical legal skills, Melanie attended The College of Law Australia in 2004 to obtain a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice.

Before their university education, Melanie Shanker attended Kambala from 1986 to 1998, where they did not pursue a specific degree or field of study.

Furthermore, Melanie has obtained additional certifications throughout their career. Melanie acquired a Practising Certificate from The Law Society of NSW in December 2004. In December 2020, they completed the Qualified Lawyers Transfer Scheme at Kaplan Professional. Lastly, in February 2021, they obtained another Practising Certificate from the Solicitors Regulation Authority.
