Assessment Specialist & Content Lead at Educational Testing Service

Idris Magette has a diverse work experience in the field of language education and assessment. Idris started their career as an English instructor at NOVA Intercultural Institute from 1998 to 1999. Idris then joined the Japan Exchange and Teaching Program (JET) as a Coordinator for International Relations from 2003 to 2005, where they facilitated cultural exchange events, conducted language instruction, and provided translation and interpretation services.

In 2002, Idris worked at The City University of New York as an Instructor in the CUNY Language Immersion Program (CLIP) until 2007. During this time, they gained experience teaching language and culture to students of different levels.

From 2005 to 2007, they worked as a Japanese-English Translator at Globe Language Services, honing their language skills and cultural understanding.

Since 2007, Idris has been employed at Educational Testing Service (ETS), where they hold the positions of Assessment Specialist & Content Lead. In this role, they collaborate with various stakeholders and experts to develop, administer, and evaluate assessments. Idris also manages projects and teams to produce high-stakes testing material.

Idris Magette earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from Princeton University from 1992 to 1996. In 2001, they attended Middlebury College to study Japanese Language and Culture, but did not obtain a degree. From 2000 to 2002, Idris pursued a Master of Arts degree in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) at Columbia University. Idris also earned a Master of Arts degree in TESOL & Applied Linguistics from Teachers College, Columbia University during the same period. In terms of additional certifications, Idris obtained the Syntrio US Workplace Harassment and Discrimination Multi-State 120 certification from Syntrio in September 2023. Idris also holds the Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) certification from the Scrum Alliance, which was obtained in April 2022. In 2003, Idris achieved the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) Level 1 certification from the Association of International Education, Japan.
