Roel Hellemons has an extensive work experience spanning several industries and roles. Roel began their career as an Officer in the Royal Dutch Army, Infantry from January 1993 to March 1998. After that, they joined Schiphol Group in March 1998 and held various roles such as Management Trainee, Manager Support Unit Airside Operations, Senior Manager Airside Operations, Senior Manager Capacity, and Director Airport Operations until January 2012.

In May 2012, Hellemons joined Brisbane Airport Corporation as the General Manager Strategic Planning & Development, a position they held until March 2018. Roel then returned to Schiphol Group as the Director Airport Operations from February 2008 to January 2012.

Roel later worked with Royal Schiphol Group as the Director Airport Operations (acting) from July 2018 to September 2018 and as the Director Schiphol International from September 2018 to June 2019.

In January 2021, Hellemons became a Board Member of World Trade Center Eindhoven and the following year joined Eindhoven Airport NV as the Chief Executive Officer in June 2019. Additionally, they hold the position of Non-Executive Director at Hobart Airport and is a Board Member of the Nederlandse Vereniging Luchthavens, starting in March 2022 and September 2022 respectively.

Roel Hellemons attended the Royal Military Academy in Breda, The Netherlands from 1989 to 1993, where they studied without earning a degree. Roel then went on to study Business Administration at the University of Nijmegen, also in The Netherlands, from 1997 to 1998. From there, they pursued further education at various institutions. In 2007, they attended INSEAD, although the specific details of their field of study are unknown. In 2009, they attended the IMD Business School, specializing in Orchestrating Winning Performance. In 2014, they attended the Australian Institute of Company Directors, achieving additional qualifications. Finally, in 2015, Hellemons completed the Strategic Leadership Program at the Institute for Strategic Leadership.
