Jim Abercrombie

General Manager at El Dorado Irrigation District

The general manager is appointed by EID's board of directors. The district’s six functional departments report to General Manager Jim Abercrombie, who provides direction and guidance for senior managers.

Abercrombie has more than 40 years of utility management experience, including 11 years as Amador Water Agency’s general manager and 20 years at Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E). Prior to joining EID, he served as PG&E’s El Dorado County district manager, from 1987 to 1998. A registered civil engineer, he earned an engineering degree from Santa Clara University and a master’s degree in business administration from Santa Clara University’s Leavey School of Business.

Abercrombie is past President of the Placerville Rotary Club, El Dorado County Chamber of Commerce, El Dorado County Development Corporation, and El Dorado County United Way as well as past chair of the El Dorado Leadership Program. Currently, he is a member of the Association of California Water Agencies (ACWA), the El Dorado County Chamber of Commerce, Placerville Rotary, El Dorado County Sheriff’s Posse, and S.A.G.E. (Surveyors, Architects, Geologists, and Engineers). Jim also serves on the Marshall Medical Board and is currently the vice chair.

Jim lives in Placerville has three children and seven grandchildren who also live in the Placerville community.
