Elena Álvarez Mellado is a PhD student at the NLP&IR research group at UNED School of Computer Science since July 2021. In addition, Elena serves as a language columnist for the national newspaper eldiario.es. Prior experience includes roles as a research programmer at USC Information Sciences Institute focusing on Natural Language Processing, a research data analyst at McLean Hospital/Harvard Medical School applying machine learning and NLP to electronic health records, and a research assistant at the LINHD Digital Humanities Innovation Lab. Elena also worked as a linguistic data analyst for Fundación del Español Urgente and as an analytical linguist at Molino de Ideas SA, contributing to various NLP developments. Educationally, Elena is pursuing a PhD at UNED, holds a Master's degree in Computational Linguistics from Brandeis University, and has completed a Linguistics degree and studies in Linguistique informatique and medical school.
