Brian George

Director of Strategic Policy & Government Affairs at EPSA

Brian George serves as the Director of Strategic Policy and Government Affairs. In this role, he is responsible for developing and implementing the strategic direction of the organization. Brian has worked extensively in the organized wholesale power markets, particularly in the eastern U.S., focusing on market design issues, as well as issues regarding the interplay between federal and state energy policy.

Prior to joining EPSA, Brian served as a Sr. Policy Advisor at the American Petroleum Institute. Prior to that he served as technical and policy advisor to FERC Commissioner Rob Powelson. As an advisor to Commissioner Powelson, Brian provided technical, economic, and policy advice to the Commissioner primarily on matters in U.S. wholesale electricity markets including: the 2017 DOE NOPR; state/federal interplay in PJM and ISO-NE; and Western U.S. energy markets. Brian started his career as an economist in FERC’s Office of Energy Policy and Innovation as well as FERC’s Office of Enforcement.

Brian received an M.A. in economics from American University, and a B.S. in economics from West Virginia Wesleyan College. He resides with his wife and goldendoodle in Maryland.
