Thorkell Gunnarsson has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Thorkell began their career as an Independent Consultant in 1999, contracting software development for various companies. In 2000, they joined DMM Solutions as a Senior Developer, where they worked until 2005. Thorkell then joined COMSYS as a Senior Consultant for a year before moving to CarMax in 2006. At CarMax, Thorkell served as a Senior Programmer Analyst and later as a Principal Analyst. Their role involved leading development teams, spearheading designs for high-traffic websites, and implementing SOA for integration and scalability. In 2017, Thorkell joined Elephant Insurance as an Enterprise Architect, and they were subsequently promoted to Director of IT Architecture in 2023. Their responsibilities at Elephant Insurance included designing and implementing projects on the public cloud, applying event-driven architecture, and coding.
Thorkell Gunnarsson attended Reykjavik University from 1999 to 2000, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Computer Science. In terms of additional certifications, they acquired several Microsoft certifications, including MCSD: Azure Solutions Architect, MCSA: Cloud Platform, and MCSE: Cloud Platform and Infrastructure - Certified 2016. Thorkell also completed various Microsoft exams and obtained certifications such as MCPS: Microsoft Certified Professional and MCAD: Microsoft .NET.
